A Beachy Cover-up Finish! – Butterick 5795

Despite all this snow and the freezing temperatures we are soon to embark on a long-awaited trip!  A Caribbean Cruise!

This is going to be our first ever cruise and it is a celebration for my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary!  They love cruising so all of us are getting together to sail the ocean blue with them for their big day.  Sounds exciting doesn’t it?

Reading through the literature from the cruise line it looks like one of the items I’ll need is swim cover up…which I do not own!  Oh my!  That’s right, we have to be covered up when walking to and from the pool areas!  Oh what is a girl to do?

Drive around town madly looking for a beach cover up when there’s 3 feet of snow on the ground?

Take my chances buying on-line and getting something to fit?

Nope and nope.  I’m a sewer and I know I can make it!

Enter Butterick pattern 5795DSCF8913

This pattern has a super cute cover that was very quick and simple to put together.

The fabric is a knit from Hancock Fabrics and the colors are perfect.  A beautiful Caribbean blue with greens and beige.  Very light and it fits perfect.

Three easy pattern pieces and just a few hours to put together.  The most complicated part of the process was this front buckle…

The front pieces overlap and a are joined together under the bust, then along a center front seam…

I was suspicious about the set-in sleeve but it went together perfectly.

The back is well covered.  perfect!

Can’t wait to make good use of it!

Happy Sewing!

  1. Cathy,
Imagine going to a shop dressed in winter gear and asking for a beach cover up for your cruise…someone might just shoot you!
Your cover up is cute. You did a great job. Down here at the beach, cover ups are wardrobe staples!
